YAKIMA, WA – Do you know someone who recycles the cardboard tubes from their toilet paper rolls? Do you take your own reusable mug with you to the espresso stand? If this sounds like you or someone you know, then Yakima County wants to hear from you.
“We are looking for recycling heroes in our community who are quietly working to save our planet, one recycled aluminum can at a time,” stated Marci Venable, Program Coordinator with Yakima County Solid Waste Division.
For the third year in a row, Yakima County’s recycling winners will be announced by the Yakima County Commissioners at their Tuesday, April 19th meeting. Other Recycling Heroes entries may be posted on www.yakimarecycles.com or featured in other Yakima County recycling publications.
Nominees can be children or adults; however, nominees must be residents of Yakima County to be eligible. “It’s important to recognize the good work that people do to help our environment,” stated Ms. Venable. “We want to encourage people to share their stories and ideas for reducing, reusing and recycling.”
Nomination forms are available on-line at www.yakimarecycles.com. Forms can also be picked up at Yakima County Public Services on the Fourth Floor of the Yakima County Courthouse, 128 N. 2nd Street in Yakima, or at the Terrace Heights Landfill Office, 7151 Roza Hill Drive.
Ms. Venable noted that the application deadline is Monday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m. Entries may be delivered, faxed (509-574-2458) or mailed to Yakima County Solid Waste, 7151 Roza Hill Drive, Yakima, WA 98901.
