FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2010

Lisa Freund, Yakima County Administrative Supervisor/Public Information Officer - 574- 2300
YAKIMA, WA – The Board of Yakima County Commissioners will hold two open record public hearings to receive public comments on the proposed text and map changes to the Yakima County Comprehensive Plan – Plan 2015, Yakima County Code Title 15 (Zoning) and Title 14 (Subdivision) as recommended by the Yakima County Planning Commission. The Board will hold the first hearing on Tuesday, November 2 at 2:30 PM to receive testimony on the proposed text changes and the second hearing on Monday, November 15 at 5:30 PM to receive testimony on the proposed map changes. Both hearings will be held at Yakima City Hall Council Chambers, 129 N. 2nd Street in Yakima.
According to County officials, the proposed text amendments are intended to eliminate existing inconsistencies within the County Code, specifically the subdivision and zoning ordinances. "It is important for Yakima County to periodically review and evaluate our existing development regulations to ensure that we are consistent with the Growth Management Act and other state laws, especially when portions of the subdivision code were written in 1974,” stated Tommy Carroll, Yakima County Project Planner.
To see the proposed changes to Plan 2015 and the development regulations, please visit the Yakima County Public Services website at: http://www.yakimacounty.us/planning/CPA.htm. Mr. Carroll also noted that the Planning Commission held hearings on the proposed amendments in May of this year and forwarded their findings and recommendations to the Board of Yakima County Commissioners. Its findings and recommendations are on the webpage listed above.
The public and media are invited to attend the hearings:
