Time: 0710 hrs

On 1/30/13 at about 0710 hrs YSO units were sent to the 400 blk of McDonald Rd regarding a two car accident. Initial information said a male subject had run from the scene.

Upon arrival deputies found one male subject holding a second male subject down. Both were bloody, and it was obvious they had been fighting. It was discovered that the subject that was being held down had stolen the other subject’s Dodge Durango from the 1100 blk of Washington Ave in Toppenish.

The victim had started the Durango outside of his house to warm up. A short while later he saw it being driven off. The victim got into his Dodge Stratus and chased the stolen vehicle. At the 400 blk of McDonald Rd the victim passed the stolen Durango and stopped in the roadway. This was done to stop the suspect.

The Durango the rammed the Stratus two times. The Durango then went off the road and into a yard. The suspect attempted to flee on foot. He was captured a short distance later by the victim. After being captured he struck the victim one time on the eye with a large rock. There were no obvious signs of injury to the victim.

Suspect Clifton Hines (25 years of age) was booked into the Yakima County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Assault 1st Degree, and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
