Dave Saunders, Building Official
Harold MacLean, Asst. Building Official

The Buidling and Fire Safety team of Yakima County plays a vital role in keeping our homes and businesses safe. Each year, we perform thousands of inspections and review hundreds of plans. Every work day, we meet homeowners, building representatives, designers, contractors, concerned neighbors and others who need development-related information and assistance – on everything from replacing a hot water heater to remodeling a bathroom, building a new home, expanding a business or constructing a new school.

Certified Inspectors use the International Building, Residential, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Property Maintenance, Existing Building, and Uniform Plumbing Codes, the Washington State Energy Code and the Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Codes as adopted and amended. This information is provided in Title 13 of the Yakima County Code.

Our goal is to provide responsive, courteous, professional service to each individual customer while protecting the public’s interest in a safe, livable Yakima County.

The Buidling and Fire Safety Division operates jointly with the Development Service Center to coordinate and streamline the development review and permit process.

Building Permit fees are determined by a number of factors. In order to avoid confusion and misunderstanding, these fees are not published. You may call 574-2300 to obtain your building permit fee. See side bar for Mechanical and Plumbing fees.

Additional information is available in the Services A-Z and Other Service Agencies links. If you have any questions, please call 574-2300.

This website is intended to assist you. We are continually developing it as we find ways to make it work for you more effectively. We hope it meets your information needs. We look forward to working with you.
