YAKIMA, WA – Yakima County Commissioners announced today that Steve Robertson, Yakima County Department of Corrections Director, is retiring at the end of 2009. The Commissioners also announced that they have appointed Ed Campbell as the new Director, effective October 1, 2009.

Mr. Robertson's retirement follows ten years of service to Yakima County, six of which he served as Director of Corrections. Prior to that he served as Undersheriff for four years. He will remain with Corrections to assist with the transition through the end of the year.
Ed Campbell, currently the Chief Criminal Deputy for the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, has been appointed to oversee all operations of Corrections, which includes five divisions, 252 positions and an annual budget of $32 million.

"After an extensive 18-month search we were pleased to find a replacement for Steve Robertson within the County family,” stated Commission Chair Rand Elliott. "Ed brings many years of leadership experience—we are confident he will continue the tradition of leadership, and the fine reputation the Yakima County Department of Corrections enjoys in the Pacific Northwest."

Mr. Campbell began his career in the Yakima County Sheriff's Office in 1988. He has held a variety of positions in the Office, most recently serving as the Chief Criminal Deputy. The long-time West Valley resident earned two master’s degrees, an MA in Organizational Management and an MBA. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration (BCJA).
