Soliciting Input to the Regional Stormwater Management Program

YAKIMA, WA – Yakima County, in partnership with the cities of Yakima, Union Gap, and Sunnyside, is holding a public meeting on Thursday, March 31 to solicit comments and input to the Regional Stormwater Management Program.
According to County officials, the program activities are required by the Eastern Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit, issued by Washington State Department of Ecology, that authorizes the cities and County to discharge stormwater from their storm sewer system to lakes and streams of Washington State.
Stormwater is runoff water from rain and snowmelt that can collect pollutants and carry them to nearby streams and lakes. Pollutants can include gasoline, oil, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and bacteria. Most stormwater discharges are untreated. The program outlines activities the County and cities will undertake to protect water quality from pollution found in stormwater.
