Date/Time: 4/11/12, 1930 hrs

On 4/11/12, at about 1930 hrs, Yakima Co Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 11000 block of N Track Rd near Toppenish on report of a gunshot victim. On arrival, deputies found an 18-year-old man in the home with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Medical personnel declared the man dead at the scene and he was not transported. The wound did not appear to be self-inflicted.

The victim is Jesus Francisco Flores, 18 years of age, of Toppenish. He was not alone in the home at the time of the shooting: Three women, an adult male, and a juvenile male were also in the house. The preliminary investigation indicates a handgun was an object of interest prior to the shooting. After the gunshot, the adult male and juvenile male fled the home. Detectives could not find the handgun in the home.

Detectives scoured the home for evidence as to what had occurred, and other detectives are in the process of interviewing those involved. The adult male and juvenile male have not been located. Detectives would very much like to speak to Hector Manuel Hernandez, the 19 year old male who apparently was in the house prior to the shooting, and left afterwards. Hernandez is an important witness in the shooting. Detectives are investigating why the shooting happened, including the possibility of an accidental shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to contact the Yakima Co Sheriff’s Office at 509-574-2500, or Yakima Co Crime Stoppers at 509-248-9980 or 1-800-248-9980. Tips to Crime Stoppers may also be texted to YAKCO plus your message to 274637. Web tips can also be submitted to www.crimestoppersyakco.org.
