DATE/TIME: June 26, 2013 0745 hrs

SUBJECT: Homicide

UPDATE: As stated in a previous release, a burned car containing human remains was located on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. The remains have been identified by Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins as those of the owner of the car, Preston Yahne, age 22 of Prosser. The investigation into the apparent homicide of Preston Yahne has resulted in the arrest of two persons.

Late Tuesday evening, June 25, detectives arrested a 19 year old female and a 24 year old male. Both are Grandview residents. The arrests were the result of inquiries into associates of the victim. Information developed in the course of the arrests indicates that the homicide occurred in Benton County rather than in Yakima County. One of the suspects was booked at Benton County and the other at Yakima. It is anticipated that Benton County authorities will take custody of the suspect booked at Yakima.

SUBJECT: Homicide

UPDATE: As previously released, the Yakima Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred behind a residence in the 900 block of Washington Avenue in Toppenish.

The victim has been identified as Pedro Marquez-Villa, age 20 from Whatcom County. Contact with Whatcom County authorities did not provide any additional information concerning next of kin.

An autopsy is scheduled for today. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

DATE/TIME: June 24, 2013 0910 hrs

SUBJECT: Homicide

UPDATE: As previously released, the Yakima Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that was discovered June 21, 2013. The victim, Alberto Gabriel Martinez, was found in the trunk of a vehicle off Hwy 97 at milepost 51.

On June 23, 2013 detectives arrested a 22 year old male on a charge of second degree murder related to this incident. This arrest follows the arrest of a female suspect Saturday night.

The investigation is continuing. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, June 24. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

The victim has been identified, however that information is being currently withheld pending notification of next of kin. The victim is a 20 year of male. His most recent home has been in Whatcom County.

SUBJECT: Homicide

UPDATE: As previously released, the Yakima Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that was discovered June 21, 2013. The victim, Alberto Gabriel Martinez, was found in the trunk of a vehicle off Hwy 97 at milepost 51. On June 22 detectives arrested a 20 year old female on a charge of second degree murder related to this incident. The suspect initially came to the attention of investigators through phone records. Additional factors developed throughout the day resulted in her arrest Saturday night.

The investigation is continuing and additional suspects are being sought. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, June 24. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

DATE/TIME: June 22, 2013 2245 hrs

SUBJECT: Homicide

SYNOPSIS: On June 22, 2013 the Toppenish Police Department was advised of the discovery of a deceased person in the 900 block of Washington Street in Toppenish. Upon arrival they determined that it appeared that the victim had suffered some type of injury to the head. They also determined that the victim was located just north of the property line, which also coincides with the city limits. This means that the victim was in the county and the Yakima Sheriff’s Office was notified.

The victim is an Hispanic male in his 20’s to early 30’s. He was dressed in gray sweatpants and a black jersey with a “Los Angeles” logo. The victim has not been identified at this time. The residents in the area had not noticed the victim’s body during the day but it appears the body had been there since sometime during the night.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

DATE/TIME: June 22, 2013 0945

SUBJECT: Homicide

SYNOPSIS: Shortly after noon on June 21, 2013 the Yakima Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible homicide. The Yakama Nation Police Department had initially responded to a call of a possible body in a vehicle at a remote location on Yakama Reservation land. When they arrived at the location they found an abandoned vehicle with a body in the trunk. The investigation was later turned over to the Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle was located off Hwy 97 at about milepost 51 on the Oak Springs Road. The body in the trunk was that of an Hispanic male in his early 20’s. Further investigation identified the victim as Alberto Gabriel Martinez, age 23 of Sunnyside. The vehicle that the victim was found in is a green 1998 Honda Civic. The owner of the vehicle is the victim’s girlfriend. The victim was last seen Thursday night.

The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled. Next of kin have been notified. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
