Funding Details of the Shaw and Wide Hollow Creeks Flood Control Project

$2,000,625. FEMA funding for flood control work. Funding with a Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program. Funds obligated and awarded in 2016 and expires on 9/20/2020.

$200,000.  Department of Ecology grant for the City of Yakima bridges located at South 80th Avenue and Wide Hollow Road. Funds are secured and awarded to the City of Yakima which expired on 12/31/2019.

$487,000. Centennial Clean water grant awarded to Yakima County by the Department of Ecology for channel construction and conveyance improvements for portions of the project that are related to water quality improvements.  This is a 3-year grant that will be available from 7/1/2016 – 7/1/2019. The North Yakima Conservation District is a primary partner and will provide the majority of the re-vegetation expertise, plant materials, and actual planting and stewardship activities. Additional grant funding will be pursued in the next few years as the need arises for the project.

$416,875 Yakima County Flood Control Zone (FCZD) match.

Shaw Creek Website Update

Yakima County will be applying for new funding sources in 2021 to complete the real estate acquisition and to fund construction. If you are a resident of the area and would like to help get this project implemented, please send letters of support to the Water Resources division located at 4th Floor Courthouse, 128 N. 2nd Street, Yakima WA, 98901. These will help us secure grant funds through the competitive selection process. There is a template for letters of support on this page that can be downloaded or printed to get started.
