YAKIMA SHERIFF’S OFFICE
PRESS RELEASE

SUBJECT: Possible Homicide

SYNOPSIS: On Tuesday, June 18, 2013 the Yakima Sheriff’s Office received information concerning the discovery of human remains. A tow company had been requested to remove a burned out vehicle from private property at Emerald Road and S. Emerald Road in the Sunnyside/Grandview area. After loading the burned vehicle onto a truck, the tow truck operator noticed what looked like a skull in the trunk of the vehicle. Law enforcement was notified and the vehicle was removed to the Yakima Sheriff’s Office property.

The initial investigation revealed that the car was registered to a Prosser area resident. The registered owner of the car, Preston Yahne age 22, had been reported as a missing person to law enforcement in Benton County on Sunday by family members.

On Wednesday, June 19, the remains were removed from the vehicle and turned over to the Yakima County Coroner for further examination and analysis. The remains have not been positively identified at the time of this release, nor has a cause of death been determined. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
