Sustain our economy by alleviating pest and plant disease problems that impact the quality of tree fruit grown here in Yakima County.

About Us

More than 30% of all employment within Yakima County is based on the tree fruit industry. The majority of the fruit produced in Yakima County is exported to markets within the U.S., North America and overseas. The detection of insect pests or plant diseases can cause closure of these markets costing millions of dollars to our local economy.

The Horticultural Pest and Disease Board investigates problem sites, seeks ways to manage these pests and diseases, and prevent their spread from these sites.

Homeowners and landowners with property having fruit trees are reminded that State law requires them to maintain these fruit trees - RCW 15.08 and RCW 15.09.
