Yakima, WA –The Board of Yakima County Commissioners has approved Resolution 42-2025 effective Monday, March 3, 2025, reinforcing the County’s commitment to preserving consumer choice by allowing residents and businesses to continue using natural gas without restrictions or penalties. The action took place at today’s Commissioner Agenda meeting.
This decision follows Washington State’s Initiative No. 2066, a voter-approved measure from November 5, 2024, that took effect on December 5, 2024, which repealed regulations limiting natural gas use in residential and commercial buildings. The County’s resolution aligns local policies with the initiative, ensuring compliance with state and national energy standards while maintaining consumer energy options.
Why This Matters to You
- Easier Permits – A simplified energy compliance form makes it quicker and easier to install or maintain natural gas systems. 2021 IRC Ch. 11 Energy Compliance Form
- Lower Costs– Residents and businesses can choose natural gas if it’s the most affordable option.
- Your Choice – Homeowners and businesses decide what energy source works best—without unnecessary restrictions.
Yakima County recognizes the importance of responding to community preferences and ensuring that regulatory decisions reflect the interests of its residents. This resolution will remain in effect unless future state regulations alter the natural gas policies previously in place.
