YAKIMA, WA – The public is invited to attend a Planning Commission public hearing on Wednesday, June 8 to offer testimony on the proposed Urban Growth Area boundary amendments to the cities of Yakima, Selah, Union Gap, Harrah and Tieton. The hearing is part of a two-year Urban Growth Area update process to review, and possibly revise, the County’s comprehensive land-use plan as required under the State’s Growth Management Act (GMA).
The hearing continues the County’s review of the Urban Growth Boundaries for the 14 cities and towns in Yakima County. The County began the update process last year by reviewing the Urban Growth Boundaries of three of the fourteen cities and towns in Yakima County. The remaining eleven cities and towns are being addressed this year as part of the 2016 amendments. Under GMA, Yakima County must review and, if needed, revise its comprehensive plan and development regulations every eight years to ensure compliance with the GMA. The County has until June 2017 to complete the review and amendment process.
The public is invited to attend the hearing and offer testimony. The hearing starts at 6:00 pm. Staff will be available between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to answer questions in an informal open house setting. Written and oral testimony on the proposed amendments will be received up to the close of the hearing.
