Yakima County District Court announces an amnesty program aimed at clearing delinquent accounts. Other courts in our area who have elected to participate in this 2 month long Amnesty are Yakima District Court, Yakima Municipal Court, Selah Municipal Court, Zillah Municipal Court, Sunnyside Municipal Court, Union Gap Municipal and Grandview Municipal.
While each court program may differ slightly, the participating courts are offering the Amnesty Program July 10 thru September 10 2017.
The Amnesty Program is designed to help those with outstanding traffic tickets and misdemeanor fines. The participating courts and their collection agencies have agreed to waive interest and may reduce a significant portion of collection costs on delinquent accounts currently in collection.
This is a rare opportunity for defendants to clear their delinquent accounts. By doing so, they can avoid future mounting collection fees and civil actions such as garnishment or property liens. They may also eliminate barriers to obtaining or reinstating their driver’s license.
NOTE: Garnishment and bankruptcy cases do not qualify for the amnesty program.
The participating courts are offering the program July – September. Defendants with outstanding tickets or fines should contact their collection agency directly. Those who are unsure of their ticket or fine balances or what collection agency has their account, may call the court and ask for the information.
