[ARCHIVED] District Court - Changes in Court and Probation Services Operations

Below is a summary of the order that was signed and became effective on March 16, 2020.  Please be advised that this order will likely be modified as the Court continues to respond to the COVID-19 situation.  Additional information is contained in the order which you can access here:  March 16, 2020 Emergency Order.  Also, please be advised that this order impacts court and probation operations in both Yakima and Grandview.

Court Operations

  • All civil and criminal jury trials are suspended from March 16, 2020 through March 31, 2020, which is subject to extension.

  • Arraignments held pursuant to CrRLJ 4.1(a) for defendants who are not in-custody are suspended.

  • All cases set on the Friday driving while license suspended calendar are continued.

  • Infraction Hearings: For all mitigation and contested infraction cases, the parties must submit a written statement. All infraction hearings that require the appearance of any party will be rescheduled to a later date.

  • All small claim mediations are hereby continued.

  • All name changes are hereby continued. Emergent needs for a name change can be initiated by filing a motion with the court.

  • The Yakima County DUI Court will continue as regularly scheduled. All participants are required to appear unless they notify a team member or the Court that they are ill.

NOTICE:  If you are feeling ill you should not enter the courthouse either in Grandview or Yakima.  Please contact the court as soon as possible to advise a clerk that you will not be able to attend court.  You can call 509-574-1800.

Probation Operations:  

The following operation changes apply to Yakima County District Court Probation Services in Yakima and Grandview and are effective immediately:

  • Traffic safety classes are suspended through March 31st. Those who are currently enrolled in a class will be notified and will be rescheduled.

  • All future Anger Management class held in the probation services conference room are cancelled.

  • In – person probation appointments are suspended for low risk offenders. Moderate and high-risk offenders will still need to report to their probation officer as directed. Probation clients will be notified if they are considered low-risk.

NOTICE:  If you are feeling ill you should not enter the courthouse either in Grandview or Yakima.  Please contact the probation staff as soon as possible to advise that you will not be able to attend your meeting with your probation officer/case manager due to illness..  You can call  509-574-1860.
