Submit a Group B Water System Application and select “Well Site Inspection” on the application. An Environmental Health Specialist will inspect the well site to confirm it meets Sanitary Control Area (SCA) Protection requirements before the well can be approved as a Group B water system.
The SCA is a protected zone around the well, typically 100 feet, where activities that could contaminate the water, such as septic systems, hazardous materials, or livestock areas, are restricted. Some contamination sources may be assessed to 200 ft. depending on their potential impact to the water system. If potential sources of contamination are identified, corrective actions may be required.
rcular zones: an inner 100-foot SCA and a larger outer 200-foot SCA, indicating increasing protection areas around the well.
Note: You must control your SCA both legally and physically. This means you should either own the land around your water source or, if someone else owns it, have an enduring legal agreement in place that limits land uses and activities in that area.
