Mission Statement
The mission of the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney is to equitably and judiciously represent the interests of the people of Yakima County and the State of Washington in the prosecution of criminal matters; to provide advocacy services for victims; to render legal counsel to County elected and appointed officials; to represent and defend the County in civil proceedings; and to represent the interests of the State and children by establishing and enforcing child support issues.
All employees of the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's Office should constantly keep in mind Ethical Consideration 7-13 of the ABA Model Code of Professional Responsibility:
The responsibility of a public prosecutor differs from that of the usual advocate; his duty is to seek justice, not merely to convict.
The Role of the Prosecuting Attorney
The Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor and felony crimes throughout the county, advocating for victims of crime, and providing legal counsel to county departments, elected officials, and law enforcement agencies. The office also represents Yakima County in civil matters and enforces the rights of children entitled to child support.
With a dedicated team of attorneys, victim advocates, investigators, and support staff, we are committed to seeking justice, protecting the community, and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and respect.
