Duties
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office represents Washington State and Yakima County in criminal and infraction cases, represents Yakima County in claims against the county, advises the various officials and departments of Yakima County in legal matters, and handles civil actions relating to support, parentage, and visitation for dependent children in Yakima, Grant and Kittitas counties.
The Prosecutor’s duties also extend to enforcing court orders and pursuing legal actions to collect child support payments from absent parents, including the use of criminal nonsupport and paternity actions.
ABA Model Code of Professional Responsibility
The responsibility of a public prosecutor differs from that of the usual advocate;
his duty is to seek justice, not merely to convict.
