Agritourism

Yakima County is conducting a review of the Development Code (Yakima County Code Title 19) regarding the permitting of wineries, breweries, and distilleries (WB&D), agricultural tourism operations, special occasion event permits associated with these land uses, and outdoor festivals. This review process intends to determine if the Yakima County Code adequately addresses these land uses, primarily when located within the Agricultural zoning district. The goal is to add more clarity to the current regulations, which were adopted when Yakima County’s wine and craft beverage industry was in its infancy.

Agritourism Advisory Group Invitation

The County wants your thoughts on the way forward regarding the permitting of wineries, breweries, and distilleries (WB&Ds), agricultural tourism operations, special occasion event permits associated with these land uses, and outdoor festivals.  We invite you to contact us if you are interested in joining the advisory group.  This group will consist of agencies of interest and subject matter experts within the WB&D and ATO industry to provide feedback to staff on proposed changes to goals, policies, and any regulations. Click the link below to see a quick video invitation to this advisory group.

Background

The Planning Division has seen an increase of un-permitted events associated with WB&Ds, and un-permitted and under-permitted WB&Ds.  This fast-paced growth has come with concerns about the enforcement of current land-use regulations and the overall impact of the craft beverage industry on the quality of life and the sense of place in rural Yakima County.

Online meeting/Open house

The County will host an online meeting (date and time TBD).  The focus of the meeting will be to review the plan and the County's long-range planning efforts and is intended to answer your questions and help facilitate dialogue. The meeting will be in the form of a recorded presentation where you will find information about the project, consider alternatives, and provide feedback.  We value your feedback and recognize that community participation is a vital element to help shape our future and create a County that we are all proud of and want to call home.  Information on registering for the meeting will be posted here when it becomes available.
