Duties
Legislators introduce bills during each session that affect public policy. Public hearings are held, issues are debated, and votes are taken. Bills that pass both houses of the Legislature are sent to the Governor for signature. They provide for the levy and collection of taxes and other revenue to support state government and appropriate funds to local governments. The Senate has the exclusive power to confirm certain gubernatorial appointments. The House has the exclusive power to bring impeachment proceedings.
Qualifications
Candidates must be qualified voters in the legislative district from which they are chosen. State Constitution, Article II, Section 7.
