Naches Park and Recreation District is the only park district in Yakima County with elected commissioners who serve four year terms. These positions are nonpartisan and candidates do not identify a political party preference.
Duties
The Parks and Recreation Commission plans, supervises, and evaluates operations of the entire Parks and Recreation District; including advising on policy and budgets, plans and programs, and maintenance and operation of the District's parks. The Commission coordinates services for all recreation programs and activities for the District.

Candidates for Park & Recreation Districts must be qualified electors of the park district. RCW 29A.20.021

Duties
The primary objective of the Port District is to enhance the economic development within the boundaries of the District. The Port is organized to aggressively enhance the local economy by providing new and expanding business and industry access to industrial land, industrial infrastructure and assistance with funding sources. A Port District Commission sets policy and approves all major expenditures.

Emergency Medical Services District
Board of County Commissioners serve as the governing board. Formed by ordinance in July 2008. This district includes the southeast portion of Yakima County including the cities of Grandview and Mabton. The District was formed to provide a mechanism for future funding to maintain the level of ambulance services in this area. This District should not be confused with the Department of Emergency Medical Services in Yakima County.

In July 1967, Yakima Regional Clean Air Authority (YRCAA) became an activated local air authority per RCW 70.94.081 by the Board of Yakima County Commissioners. On January 1, 2004 YRCAA became an independent agency, no longer contracting for support services with Yakima County.
The YRCAA governing Board of Directors consists of 2 representatives of County Commissioners, 1 large city representative (usually the mayor of the City of Yakima), 1 small city representative (elected by the City Selection committee, and 1 member-at-large (selected by the other 4 Board Members). In addition, each Board Member selects an alternate who serves in their place, should they be unable to attend a Board Meeting.
